Maria Piva

Maria Piva is the managing attorney at Goldstein & Company. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, aviation law, business law and transactions, and real estate matters.

Maria is dedicated to understanding her clients’ objectives and prioritizes these goals in every aspect of her work, whether in dispute resolution or transactional matters. When representing a client involved in a dispute, Maria distills each case to its essential elements to identify strengths, anticipate hurdles, and develop a tailored and effective dispute resolution strategy. She works closely with her clients in developing a litigation strategy and counsels them through every stage of a dispute.

While a skilled and strategic litigator, Maria’s practice has expanded to encompass transactional and business matters where she applies her perspective as a litigator to assess potential risks, provide dependable counsel, and protect her client’s interests. Maria serves as outside general counsel for her business clients, working closely with them to fully understand their operations and business goals and tailor her approach to best fit their needs.

Maria is licensed to practice law in Florida, Georgia, and New York. She is a native Spanish speaker and represents domestic and international clients.

Maria enjoys following developments in the law, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Business Law and Commercial Transactions:

  • Represent clients in the formation of new businesses, partnerships, and business ventures, and in connection with the sale or acquisition of existing businesses.
  • Serve as outside counsel for businesses and provide general legal counsel on day-to-day business operations, including asset sales and acquisition, employment matters, product sales and procurement, insurances matters, service agreements, risk management and mitigation, and real estate and construction.

Commercial Litigation:

  • Represent local and international parties in litigation involving breach of contract claims in state and federal court, and arbitration proceedings. Representative cases include disputes between business partners, breach of purchase agreements for high value assets, breach of employment agreements, and breach of services and licensing agreements involving joint ventures.
  • Represent local and international parties in litigation involving business torts, including claims for fraud and violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. Representative matters include claims for fraudulent inducement and misrepresentations by fiduciaries related to real estate investments, and disputes between members of a business ventures related lost profits and deficient services.

Aviation Law:

  • Provide defense to flight schools, repair facilities, pilots, air carriers, and aircraft owners in litigation involving aircraft accident cases.
  • Represent agricultural aviation clients in matters involving claims of crop damage, aircraft damage, and breach of contract.
  • Represent plaintiffs and defendants in litigation involving breach of contract, negligence and fraud claims involving the sale, lease, or acquisition of aircraft, aircraft engines, and aircraft parts.
  • Represent and counsel aviation businesses on business matters, including the formation or sale of aviation businesses, administrative law compliance, and mechanics’ liens.
  • Represent and counsel clients through enforcement actions or investigations instituted by various federal and state agencies, including state and federal Departments of Transportation.
  • Represent clients in the sale and purchase of aircraft, aircraft engines, and aircraft parts.
  • Serve as outside counsel and provide general counsel for aviation businesses, including flight schools, repair facilities, air carriers, and fixed-base operators.

Real Estate Matters:

  • Represent business clients in obtaining financing and refinancing, including representation of clients in multi-million-dollar complex financing transactions involving commercial real estate and aircraft engines.
  • Represent buyers, sellers, lenders, lessors, and lessees in commercial and residential real estate closings and transactions.
  • Represent parties in real estate litigation, including breach of contract, title disputes, partition actions, actions for broker fees, foreclosure cases, and litigation involving real estate investments.
